Battlestar Galactica: Season 2-07: Home Part 2

The Best Scenes in BSG 207:

Home-Part 2 Is Where The Heart Is!

Home-Part 2 is a nice follow-up to Episode 206 for a number of reasons.  First, the subplot between Baltar and Six is perhaps one of the most interesting interactions since the miniseries aired.  When Six relates to Gaius that there is no chip in his head and that he is simply going crazy, the good doctor has Cottle perform a brain scan on him.  The results show that there is nothing wrong with his head.   So the question remains: Who is Six if not an implant?

By the conclusion of Home-Part 2, Six does reveal that their child is actually Boomer-C's (the pregnant Boomer-Caprica model) and that she is an angel sent by the Cylon God to protect and guide him while the rest of the human race perishes.  It would appear that a great destiny still awaits Baltar- to be revealed later this season.

Second, I loved it when Commander Adama reunited with the rest of his crew on Kobol.  His reactions to each member in Roslin's party was priceless.  Without saying anything to his son, he goes up to him and hugs him affectionately.  He then gives Roslin a simple, but very effective greeting, 'It's good to see you,' and then tells her at a later point that he forgives her (even though she does not want his forgiveness).  But when he sees Boomer-C, Adama grabs her by the neck and forces her to the ground, yelling 'I want you to die!'  Before he succeeds in choking her to death, however, he experiences sharp pain in his chest from the gunshot wounds and starts writhing in pain.   One feels very sorry for the Commander who is unable to see the value of the Cylon before him.  This scene reminded me of Lee's initial reaction when he noticed Boomer-C upon Starbuck's return.  Like father, like son.  Both Adamas can be very impulsive, which is their strength as well as weakness.

Third, upon the group's arrival at the Tomb of Athena (with no Cylon interference, surprisingly!) it looks like Mr. Meier has effectively manipulated Boomer-C to kill Adama while he targets his son, Apollo.  But then Boomer shoots Meier dead and then matter-of-factly hands over her gun to Adama in a goodwill gesture, announcing that she is a different Sharon than the one who attempted to assassinate him aboard the Galactica.  This entire sequence was not entirely unexpected, but it makes this reviewer wonder whether any new guest star on the show will either be killed off or be introduced as a new Cylon model (like  Simon in The Farm).  In any case, the scene was still pretty effective in its execution.

Finally, upon arriving at the tomb, Starbuck places her arrow in the archer's bow and the principal characters (herself, Adama, Lee and Roslin) are transported (or holographically projected) to the planet Earth.  As they look up at the sky, Lee is able to recognize the Lagoon Nebula from their perspective, thus providing the crew with a specific direction to head towards on their journey.  What I find interesting is that the Terran planet is more than just a symbol concocted by Adama to give hope to his people.  Rather, it is a breathable planet that offers a place of refuge for the Galacticans.  And on that alone, I give this episode a 10+ (like the preceding episode).  Since Earth is now a reality, perhaps this is why Adama recognizes Laura Roslin with a heartfelt round of applause in the reunion ceremony at the end of Home- Part 2.  After all, she is the prophet who will lead them to that planet, and that goal is becoming actualized!

All in all, this was a fantastic episode and it reminded me of the ending of TOS's Living Legend where the Ship of Light aliens give Apollo, Starbuck and Sheba the coordinates to Earth.  Obviously, those on Kobol were an advanced race as well, judging by their technological skills in transportation/projection.  The journey has become an archetypal one for the crew of the Battlestar Galactica.  I just wonder what other surprises lie in store for this displaced people.  We shall see, won't we!
